This classically beautiful Type III Gold Dollar was minted from 1856 until 1889 and features the image of Miss Liberty wearing a feathered Indian headdress on the obverse and a wreath encircling the denomination and date on the reverse. Because the strike for the first two types in this series was often weak, the obverse design of Miss Liberty was adopted directly from the $3 gold piece.
