If you own a Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, you already own 1/4th of the 4 Piece Indian Set. It may look like the Gold American Eagle Bullion coin, but as a pre-1933 rarity, it holds more value and will always trade at a higher amount than bullion. The intrinsic value of the piece, coupled with its numismatic properties, make the coin “bullion with muscle.”
From 1908 to 1933, the gold pieces that make up the Indian Set – the Indian Quarter Eagle, Half Eagle and Eagle and the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle – formed the foundation of daily commerce in the United States. That came to an abrupt halt in 1933, when private gold ownership became illegal. President Franklin Roosevelt confiscated all privately owned gold and melted the majority of these coins into bars. The relatively few “survivors” are now sought after by an increasing number of investors and collectors.
Blanchard and Company Inc. offers both Choice Uncirculated (MS63) and Near-Gem Uncirculated (MS64) coins for purchase individually or grouped together as a 4 piece set.
